About us

The Association was formed in 2023 and had its launch event at the Royal Courts of Justice on 24th May 2023.

The Association is open to all judges: salaried and fee-paid; courts and tribunals; legally qualified and non-legally qualified; serving and retired; and from any circuit or region of the UK. Straight allies are welcome.

You can join by going to the Join Us page of the website

The purposes of the Association are to:

increase the visibility of LGBTQ+ judges, and so to signal to judges, and prospective judges, that it is “ok” to be an openly LGBTQ+ judge;

provide networking opportunities for LGBTQ+ judges across the judiciary;

increase the understanding of LGBTQ+ judges – their numbers, processes for selection, and actual or perceived barriers to their progression; and

advise, if requested, leadership judges, the Judicial College, and the Judicial Appointments Commission.

The Association does not express a view on matters of political controversy or public debate in relation to LGBTQ+ issues, as that would be incompatible with the impartial nature of the judicial role.
